DRURY.

On Sunday, March 20th, a very impressive service was conducted in the Pxesbyterian Chui’ch by the Rev. Hales, on the occasion of the induction of Mr R. Johnson as an elder of the Drury Presbyterian Church. A lai-ge congregation was present. On. Tuesday, March 22nd, a public meeting was held in the Public Hall to consider the possibility of.forming a Lawn Tennis Club, a fair number of interested people attending. Mr T. H. Brooks was voted to the chair. It was resolved to form a club if a suitable piece of ground could be obtained. A committee was appointed, with Mr T. H. Brooks as chairman, and Mr R. Wild as secretary, to endeavour to find a piece of ground lai*ge enough to include a football and cricket ground, bowling green, lawn tennis court, and general ‘reex-eation, and to report to a further meeting to be appointed. This movement should command the generous help of the inhabitants of all the surrounding districts, as a recreation ground is much wanted at Drury, and would prove a great attraction. / A familiar land-mark of Drury will soon disappear, as the sheds and kilns of the late Drury Fii’e Bi'ick and Tile Company has been sold, and ai’e being pulled down and taken away to Devonport, where, I believe, they are tc be x’e-erected for the Auckland Gas Company, so good-bye to an undertaking that was started some years ago with a great flourish of trumpets, and resulted only in finding employment for several men for some time and the shareholders’ losing their money. The Bing Boys gave one of their popular entertainments hei'e lately, to a full house of appreciative patrons. The weekly picture show continues to draw fair audiences.. They are showing on Saturday evenings now until further notice. The Tuakau Tennis Club will hold a series of dances in the Tuakau Hall commencing on Api-il 6th.
