Mr. J. W. Olphert, B. A., of the Technical High School staff, has re-

ceived cabled advice that he has passed the M.A. degree with first-class honours in economics, and has also passed the examination for the diploma in education, Mr. Olphert is the first and only student of the Auckland University to gain the latter distinction. Mr Olphert has also been selected for the fifth year in succession to represent the Auckland University in the middle distance events at the inter-’varsity athletic tournament to be held in Christchurch at Easter.
