PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. The Papakura Town Board met last evening w r hen there were present: Messrs S. Evans (chairman), Jas. Beams, T. D. Campbell, J. Rea, E. D. McLennan Weir, J. R. Wilson and the clerk (Mr. A. L. Cooper). Excavation of P.ark. Mr. T. E. Pearson, superintendent of Parks, Auckland, reported having inspected the excavation work being carried out on the Town Board’s park, and expressed entire satisfaction with the work being undertaken by the contractor (Mr H. Blank.—Received. A Generous Offer. Messrs Butterworth and McCall waited on the Board and offered to give two corners of land on the corner ,of the Great South Road and an unopened road in the town district for town beautifying purposes. —-On the motion of the chairman and Mr Rea it was decided to accept the gift with thanks. Library and Hall Site. In reply to the Board’s letter in connection with the proposed' exchange for library and town haji site, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Lands, Hon. D. H. Guthrie, advised that the Board’s representationswould receive due consideration and both would reply at a later date. German Machine-gun.

It was reported that the war trophy allotted to the town of Papakura by the Defence Department nad arrived and was on view at the Farmers’ Trading Company’s Store. —The clerk was instructed to write and thank the Department for is gift and also to apply for a much larger weapon, so that it could be placed either on the fallen soldiers’ monument site or in the park. Town Board Office. The chairman reported that the Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Committee had been informed that the monument would be ready for erection in month’s time. In view of the fact that the foundations had to be' laid about a month prior to the erection of the monument, he urged that steps be taken to remove the Board’s offices to the Church of Christ chapel and arrangements made to have the present building dismantled. The matter of arranging for the removal of the structure was left in the hands of the Works Committee with full power to act. Sub-Committees.

In view of the vacancies on the various sub-committees, caused by the death of Mr D. W. Jones and the resignation of Mr. R. Montgomery, the following sub-committees were appointed: —Finance and legal: The chairman, Messrs E. D. McLennan and J. R.. Wilson. Sanitary: The chairman, Messrs McLennan, Rea and Wilson. Library: The chairman and MiBeams. Lighting and town planning: The chairman. Messrs. Rea and Milson; Works: The whole of the members of the Board. Finance. ,The treasurer (Mr A. T.. Coopei ) reported that the general account was in debit £515 4s 6 1 -»d. Accounts amounting to £1455 19s 7d for waterworks, £264 13s 2d general. and £75 for road improvement.were oassed for payment.
