LUCERNE GROWING IN THE BUCKLAND AND PUKEKOHE DISTRICTS.
Sir, —I u r as very much interested in your report of the lucerne demonstration at Mauku. I have been growing this legume for the last seven years in the Matamata district with great success. It is the ideal fodder .plant for the dairy farmer and I cannot understand why he fights shy of it. When I took possession of my little farm last August I at once started to prepare a plot for lucerne and on December 23 last I broadcasted with the top dresser 3 acres and I have a splendid stand and am just cutting it for the first time and the second crop is coming sway nicely. Mr Jago, Harrisville, has also a small area doing well on the heavier land. I feel sure that this district will grow lucerne to perfection and I should strongly advise every progressive dairy farmer to put in a few acres. It shall be very pleased to show any settler who is interested my paddock, and lam quite sure he will go away convinced that it can be grown with sucess in this district.—l am, etc., ; W. RITCHINGS,.
