PUKEKOHE DISTRICT GOLF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Pukekohe District Golf Club was held in Messi's Roulston and Bonner’s office on Monday, 7th inst., Mr. J. W. Johns being in the chair. The secretary (Mr Chas. Bonner) reported as follows: —Your committee have pleasui'e in presenting the following slight resume of the past season’s proceedings. Opening day was fixed for May 1 and at the aftex--noon tea adjournment the president (Mr Walter Johns), in a chai'acteristic speech declared the season officially opened. A mixed foursome was the opening day xnatch, the winners being Mr Bockett and Mrs Duncan Roulston. Duz'ing the season several coxxipetitions were held and on the whole sozzie very interesting games and close finishes resulted, the vinnex'S being- as follows:
President’s Prize.—W. G. Bi’osnahan.
Captain’s Pz-ize. —B. P. Hopkins. Mr J. G. Russell's prize—W. G Brosnahan, Mrs Duncan Roulston. Mr W. G. Brosnahan’s Prize (men) —W. P. Hopkins.
Mr W. G. Brosnahan’s Prize - (ladies).—Mz’s Caxnpbell-Smith. Two matches were- also played against Papakux-a, the first at Papakura resulting in a rather easy win for Pukekohe, the other against Papakura at Pukekohe, being drawn. One very pleasing featuz-e of the season’s play was the gx’eat impx’ovement shown by the younger players as the season pi’ogressed. In this connection jour committee would advise meznbers to obtain the sex'vices of a professional from Auckland to spend a day on the local links and thus improve the standard of play. It is hoped that matches against outside clubs will be ai-ranged during the coming season. In conclusion your committee wish to eznphasise the fact that they srongly urge upon the incoming committee the necessity and wisdom of having a ladder competition. In the event of a ladder competition being again bx'ought into use, the comxnitt.ee would ui'ge upon members the desirability of challenging and playing the next member on the ladder. Wishing the ’club every success for the coming season. The report was adopted.
The following officers were elected: President: Mr Ja». Roulston. VicePresident: Mr. L. fe Bayly, re-elected. Hon. Vice-Pi'esidents: Messrs J. G. Russell, I. Motion and Dr. Wake. Captain: W. G. Brosnahan. Secretary and treasuier: Mr Chas. Bonner, reelected. Auditor: Mr A. P. Day, reelected.
Committees were set up as follows:—Gexxeral Committee: Messrs B. P. Hopkins, H. Pattle and E. Clarke. Kandicappers and Selection Committee: Messrs H. Bockett, captain and W. P. Hopkins. Refreshment Committee: Mesdames Pattle, CampbellSmith. Motion, Bayly and Johns. Grounds Committee: Messrs W. P. Hopkins, H. Pattle, J. W. Johns, L. J. Bayly, H. Bockett, Dr. CampbellSmith and captain. The subscriptions for the season were fixed as follows:—Gents. £2 2s, under 20 years £1 Is: ladies £1 Is, under 21 years 10s 6d.
It was also decided that the club be affiliated with the Golf Union. The Gi’ounds Coxximittee were instructed to take in hand the question of laying down two new greens and also having the present gx-eens done up. The fixing of the date of the opening day was left in the hands of the Grounds Committee, as was also the appointment of caretaker and his wages. The secretary was instructed to write to Messi's J. and D. Roulston thanking them for their grounds.
The meeting was closed with a hearty vote of thanks being accorded to President Johns, Captain* Hopkins and Secretary Bonner for the keen interest and untiring efforts they had shown on behalf of the club during the past season.
