POKENO.

The second dance in connection with the Pokeno Valley Tennis Club was held in Mr Ryburn’s barn on Friday last, and proved quite as successful and enjoyable as the first. Dance music supplied by Mr. E. Hayward was all that could be desired. The duties of M.C.’s were effiicently discharged by Miss Madge Gulland and Mr Joe Calder. Supper provided by the ladies was partaken of and duly appreciated. Another dance will be held shortly. NEW TENNIS COURT. Work in connection with the construction of two new tennis courts for the Pokeno Valley Tennis Club is progressing apace, although the work was somewhat retared owing to the inability to obtain material. The courts will be completed shortly, and will be ready for play almost immediately. The courts are situated in the public school grounds, and are a great credit to the district, the construction being carried out entirely by voluntary labour.
