A GREAT DAIRY COW.
RETURNS £SB 6s Sd IN 4 MONTHS. Mr. H. R. Green,, the Palmerston North Friesian breeder, has in his herd of pedigree cattle, many fine cows: He has just received a certificate from the Department of Agriculture, certifying that his heifer, Rosa Posch of Oakview, only a two-year-old, has completed a record for the black and white breed for heifers of her age, of 19,515.51bs of milk and 718.8sTbs of butter-fat. This heifer returned IVIr, Green no less than £Bl 12s 4d last season, as he received 2s ci/.d per lb for butter-fat from the Glaxo factory at Bunnythorpe. The fine effort of this two-year-old heifer of the black and white breed is not only the best performance yet re>corded by an animal of her age and description, but her performance beats the best records of any breed at her age in the Dominion, in fact cnlv sixteen cows all told, thirteen of them Friesians and three Jerseys, have given under test as much butteifat in a season as Mr Green’s young heifer. The Kairanga breeder is a o-ain testing this heifer and she returned him 821bs of butter-fat for November (£ll IDs 2d), and 871bs of butter-fat- for December (£l2 13s 9d). ShA's not the only good one in the henl, however, as another young cow owned by Mr. Green has returned him no less than £SB 6s 8d in four months this season, having given over 490ibs of butter-fat in that period. This cow, Buttercup of Ashlynn, which is just four verms old,, is also under Government test. These figures are eloquent of what a highly profitable cow the Friesian is. Both of,these s reat animals were bred in the Palmerston North distrct and were bought by their owner from Messrs. Gallichan and Hopping as calves.
