Admiral Sims in a speech at Haverhill, Massachusetts, said disarmament was impossible at present. The United States should continue its naval construction programme. Only when all nations agree to do away with armies and navies will it be safe for the United States to disarm. A most attractive looking pair of duelling pistols, muzzle loading, and with flint locks, gold mounted and beautifully ornamented with a great deal of hand carving, made their appearance at the Napier Police Station, the owner taking them there for registration purposes. These weapons were made by Le Page, “makers to Royalty, 1 ’’ in Pax’is, probably before 1770, but there is nothing on the weapons to fix the date. They are in a most excellent state of preservation* and are numbered “1” and “2,” the figures being in gold. The whole firing system, hammer, trigger, flint and pan, is in a wonderfully good state, and the owner recently refused £IOO for the pair.
