DRAINAGE AT PAPATOETOE.
A NECESSARY WORK. With the remarkable growth of Papatoetoe, the question of a drainage scheme becomes an urgent necesity. The time is past when a man should have to look around for the lowest ground in order to find a place, into which he may drain his waste water. Not only is this conducive to ill health in a community by making stagnant pools for germs to develop, but in cases it may even develop ill-feeling between the parties concerned.
Hence it is recognised that the Town Board is taking an important step in the right direction by deciding upon a point which will be an outlet for the sewer. This piont is situated about one mile below the Tamaki bridge. It will be necessary to have the consent of the Auckland Harbou/r Board before anything further can be done, and a letter asking the engineer and harbourmaster to inspect the spot was written by the secretary. They informed the Board that they would make the inspection after a plan showing the site of the proposed outfall was submitted to them.
One great drawback which faces anyone attempting to drain in the district is the very level nature of the land. To obtain the desired fall is impracticable in many cases.
