At the Manurewa Town Board last evening a letter was received from the Prime Minister in reference to the request from the Board for the inclusion of a postmaster’s room in the new post office now in course of erection. The letter stated that as the office would be in charge of a postmistress and she would be required in the main office, the department could not see its way to accede to the request.

The newly formed Pukekohe Brass Band is making rapid progress as far as efficiency is concerned. Regular practices are held under the bandmaster, Mr. P. C. Calkin, of Papatoetoe. At the present time the band has 16 playing members, while a number of others are waiting to join as soon as a supply of instruments is obtained. We understand that the band will render a musical programme at the Franklin A. and P.i Society’s Show on Saturday, February 26.

At the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, Mr. W. R. McKean, S. M., gave judgment in the Police v. Alfred Crossby and the Police v. William Taupo eases, heard last Court day, when the magistrate reserved judgment. Crosby was charged with supplying Taupo, a native, with liquor for consumption off licensed peremises and Taupo was ‘carpeted” for aiding and abetting Crosby in the commission of an offence. Both defendants were convicted and fined £lO each, and ordered to pay 7s Court costs. Security for appeal was fixed at £lO each, in addition to the payment of the fine and costs.
