TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1921. BOROUGH SANITARY SERVICE.
A great deal of dissatisfaction appears to exist in the borough regarding the sanitary service. While it is recognised that there are many difficulties in the way of absolute perfection, still it must be admitted that real improvement could be made. For instance, the antiquated method employed of using a tank cart instead of the closed pan system is quite startling to those who have been told that Pukekohe is progressive. In the interests - of health and cleanliness, surely the closed pan system should be introduced. No town can claim modernity which clings to the unsavoury tank cart method of handling this unpleasant problem. Of course, it is recognised that only will overcome the position thoroughly and no doubt the Borough Council is looking forward to the installation of that desired method, but in the meantime surely the closed pan system could be installed. Towns much smaller than Pukekohe would shudder to think about the method in use here, and now that public attention has been drawn to the matter the ratepayers should not, in their own interests, rest until improvement is effected.
“We nothing extenuate, nor aught set down in malice.”
