PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

COMMITTEES’ REPORTS. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Borough Council the following reports were read and adopted:— Works Committee. The committee after inspecting the borough roads report as under: Paerata Road—Metal has been carted and spread on this road, leaving 7Vo chains unfinished. We have nearly enough spawls on hand to complete as soon as the metal can be crushed.

Buckland Road.—This road hasibeen trimmed up with the plough and grader and is ready for metal. We have sufficient spawls carted ready for crushing.

Reynolds Hill. —Has been attended to. Metal has been spread and water tables ploughed and graded. Improvements have been made on the hill from the Loan Company’s yards to the top of the hill. The hill has been patched with metal and a considerable quantity of filling made up. Some scoria has come to hand and this has been carted and placed on the Station Road, from Berriman‘s to the Showground corner. Footpaths have also been trimmed ready for tarring. We have been unable to get the material to do the footpaths, but we expect the material to come to hand at any time, when this work wall be proceeded with. The committee recommend that a portion of the Tua kau Road be attended to as this portion of road referred to has become worn to such an extent that it has become a razor back. We recommend that this should be regraded for a distance of five or six chains. This work can be done to advantage in fine weather. Queen Street requires attention. This road has become bad through continual heavy rains, silt having accumulated in some places and Washouts in other places. This road required the plough and grader. Shoulders on the road should be removed and water tables attended to and bad places put right. Waterworks Report. The Electric Light and Waterworks and Sanitary Committee beg to report as follows: — _ Waterworks Extension, Dublin Street to Helvetia Road. —The material for this extension, which was authorised some months ago, is now to hand and the work will be proceeded with immediately. Electric Light Poles. —Nine of these poles have been received, five of which have been erected in Totara Avenue, three to strengthen the line in Station Road and one for the new school. Coal Supply.—The supply of coal is very low and is giving the committee great concern. We have been trying for a long time to build up a reserve but so far without success. . New power house foundations have been laid and the walls of the main building are up 6ft. The work has been delayed owing to the non-de-livery of material, but same is now to hand and the work will be proceeded with.

New Pump.— The new electric pump is now in use an( l working satisfactorily. Analysis of Water.— Steps have! been taken to have the water analysed. Two samples will be taken at a cost of £6 6s each, to be borne by the Council. The committee recommend that a remit be submitted to the next Municipal Conference suggesting that the cost of water analysis be paid by the Government. Both reports were adopted.
