SPORTS AT ONEWHERO.

QUITE A SUCCESS,

The Onewhero Sports Club (N.A.U) heldl their annual sports in Mr. John Cathcart’s paddock on January 29. There was a record gathering of onlookers, the fields for all events being first-class. The competition for the handsome cup valued at 1.0 guineas, presented by Messrs. Taylor and Cornish, was very keen, the trophy

being won for the first time by W.. Marshall, whose horse gave a splendid exhibition of jumping. Mr. I. J. Cathcart’s black gelding was a close second. This event was judged by Mr. Hosking, of Clevedon. Following are the results:— Maiden Handicap (120yds).—J. Palmer, 2yds, 1; I. J. Cathcart, scr, 2. Half-mile ,Handicap.—T. Gaskell, 50yds, 1; C. Gaskell, 60yds, 2; L. Cathcart, scr, 3.

Onewhero Cup (220yds).—A. J. Hart, 20yds, 1; G. Rutherford, 20yds, 2; L. Cathcart, 15yds, 3. A splendid race btween Hart and Rutherford, the former winning by half a yard in fast time.

High Jump (Men).—l. J. Cathcart anad S. Cronin, sft, equal, 1. 440Yds Handicap.—L. Cathcart, 1; S. Finch, 2; 0. Gaskell, 3. A fine race. L. Cathcart with a fine spurt 100 yards from the tape outpaced Finch and won comfortably.
