FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. & . The ordinary monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council was held on Wednesday night, when there were present:—Crs. W. Claud Motion (ehairmah), T. W. Woods, Hy. Wilcox, E. C. Cuff, H. O. Mellsop, J. Dean, B. Charles, G. Wi.f Heald, J. R. Lowry, the clerk (Mr. Alan P. Day) and the engineer (Mr. J. F. McArthur). An apology for absence was received from Gjr. R. T. Reid. Pukekohe East-Ramarama Road, In reply to the Councl’s request to the Minister of Public Works relative to the expenditure of the grant on the Pukekohe East " to Ramarama Road, via Kearns, the assistant undersecretary of the department, stated that the matter was receiving at- - tention.—Received. Te Waikato Sanatorium. In reply to the Council’s letter protesting- against the closing of Te Waikato Sanatorium, the Minister of Health, Hon. C. J. Parr, stated that there was no intention of closing the sanatorium at present.—Received. Watpips Depot Site. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, North Auckland, wrote offering the Council a Ismail piece of land adjoining Mr. W. J. Craig’s property for £ls, which it wanted vested in the Council for a depot side. —Councillor for the (riding and engineer to inspect and report on at next meeting. Karaka Depot. With reference to section 29, Karaka Parish, which the Council did not want to lease, the Commissioner of Crown* Lands offered the Council the small area adjoining section 29, Karaka Parish, for about £2O for. *a, depot site. Previously the Council*-, asked that the land be set. aside for county purposes.—Left to Cr. Charles and engineer to inspect and report on at next meeting. Health Act, 1920.
With reference to the new Public Health Act which came into force on January 1 last and the appointment of an inspector of health for the County as required under such Act, the district health officer* Dr. T. J. Hughes, wrote offering to provide a part time inspector for £125 per annum.—The chairman said the Council had enough to do now, and suggested the Department’s offer to provide an inspector for £125 be accepted. He moved to this effect and the motion f was carried. Cr. Wilcox seconded. It was pointed out that the Council could not employ a suitable man to do the work for the amount name'd. Swift Street, Runciman. The district engineer, New Zea- . land railways, intimated that the closing’ of Swift Street, was now completed and compenslt*J titon to Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, while an application has been made to have a certificate of title in respect to Swift Street issed to Mr John Dickson.—Received. Stewart-Cowan and Heafd’s Roads Loan. In connection with the StewartCowan and Heald's Roads loan of £750, the Public Trust Office, Wellington, forwarded documents for completion for raising of the loan. — On the motion of the chairman, the common sea! of the Council and the necessasry signatures are to he affixed.
