(Own Correspondent.) • It is to be regretted that the picnic and sports fixed for Saturday, January 29, did not eventuate. This event, which was inaugurated last year proved a great success, and settlers and residents had looked forward to another enjoyable outing this year. A strong committee was formed and substantial support promised, but meetings of the committee called subsequently lapsed for want of a quorum and the fixture had to be abandoned. Apparently the harvesting of record crops of hay and oats has a detrimental effect on recreation.
