MAUKU.

After an interval of some years the members of St. Bride’s Church have revived the annual parish picnic. It was held in Mr. S. Forbes’ paddocklast Saturday and was largely attended and pronounced a thorough success. As usual the needs of the children were actively catered for, games and races of all sorts being got up for them, with prizes for winners and losers alike. Advantage was taken of the gathering for the minister, the Rev. J. Fussell, to present to Mrs. A. E. Wright, on behalf of the congregation, a handsome silver salver and cake stand suitably inscribed, in recognition of her long service as organist. On the same day, at the tennis courts, a series of matches took place between a number of visitors and local players. Your own has not been able to get the scores, but understands that the honours lie with the visitors.

Late as the date is, haymaking is stitll going on. The hay crop has been an exceptionally heavy one, and although the weather has been tricky, most of it has been got in in good condition.
