WIDESPREAD OPERATIONS (British Oflicial Wireless.) (Rec. 10 a.m.) RUGBY. October 2?. A Cairo communique states; Apart from patrol activity yesterday there is nothing to report from our land forces. On Wednesday night our heavy bombers attacked the aerodrome at Malomo, in Crete. Fires were started among aircraft. Our medium and light bombers were engaged over the forward enemy landing grounds in the Fnka area. Aircraft were seen burning and explosions were caused among dumps and encampments. Yesterday our bombers aiid fighters’ attacks on enemy _ landing grounds were continued. Direct Hits were scored on aircraft, and other damage was inflicted. During a subsequent air battle our fighters destroyed six enemy and damaged many more. Our long-range fighters successfully attacked road targets between Mersa Matruh and Solium. Tho enemy continued bis attacks on Malta yesterday, but with no more success than previously. Our fighters shot down at least three enemy planes. A farther • Me. 105 was destroyed by ground fire.
