News and Views.

R. Heasley, who broke a collarbone when Foi-to fell with him in the hurdle race at the Geraldine meeting last month, will return to the saddle at Gore to-morrow, and will have the mount on Forte in the Highweight Handicap. , H. N. Wiggins, who has been riding work at Ellerslie, announced his intention to return to race riding at the Wellington meeting. It was at Trcntham he met his injury just a year ago. Damascus, who owed most of his success at Washdyke last Saturday to good riding, has been turned out for a short spell. Ho has proved a difficult horse to keep condition on.

Taxpayer, who is engaged in the principal handicap at Gore to-morrow, was sent a mile at Wingatui yesterday morning, but worked indifferently. He is not a good track worker by himself, but the field in his race looks to be a little to rich for him on recent form.

Battledress is the ante-post favourite for the Wellington Racing Chib Handicap, but he -will have to be at his best to beat Kakauui, to whom he concedes 21b. One of the light-weights that has been galloping well lately is Kinsman, and his success at the recent Masterton meeting has brought him into favour. Both W. F. Ellis and K. E. Wilson have “ full books ” at Gore. Ellis will ride Sal, Aramoney, Carolyn, Anglo-Irish, Marquee, and Bashful Lady, ami Wilson has been engaged to ride Tissue, Platform, Tea For Two, Amorlad, Spanish Lad, and Green Note.

The Champ, who now heads the handicap for the Shorts Handicap at Tronthara, has been galloping brilliantly on the tracks lately, but be does not always repeat his track work in races. Scottish Dale has been penalised 3!b for her win at Washclyke last Saturday, making her weight 8.2, and a repetition of her form in that race will make her the hardest to beat, especially if she draws a good position at the barrier. A spell of improved weather made the Trentham course in good order for the final gallops yesterday morning, and some fast times were recorded. Beau Vaals ran five furlongs in 53scc, the last four in 49sec. Egyptian Rose was going well within herself over half a mile in 49|sec. Indian Sign gave Dominate a good start over five furlongs, and they finished almost on even terras in 62scc. Straight Left beat Broadcaster over six furlongs in Imin ISsoe.

Minority was scratched for all engagements at the Wellington aiecting at 12.55 p.m. last Saturday, Strip and Boloyna also for all engagements at 11.50 a.m. on Monday, and Look Again has been withdrawn from the Wellesley Stakes. Additional official scratching!; announced are: —Wardress, Gay Fort, Wavrigal, Cheap Lodging, Good Scout, Gulf Stream, Athenian, Hink-

ler, Prince Rewa, Royal Heir, and Sporting Sister. Lady Pippen has been withdrawn from the Wellington Guineas on account of the death of Mr A: Mclntosh, a prominent Gisborne trainer. The field for the Wellington Guineas tomorrow is easily the best that this classic has attracted for very many years, eight of them having won this season. Beau Yaals won over six furlongs at Avondale, Botany over a similar distance at Riccarton, Boulder Dam over six furlongs and 200yds at Hastings, Poxhavcn over six fnriongs at Riccarton and the Dunedin Guineas, Indian Sign the Wanganui Guineas, John Gay the John Grigg Stakes (7f) at Ashburton, Representative both the Avondale and Great Northern Guineas, and Broiveine over seven furlongs at Egraout. A Riccarton 'representative that will have to be taken into account is King Herod, who was unlucky to be beaten in the John Grigg Stakes and finished second to Scottish Dale in the open six furlongs race at Waehdyke last Saturday.
