HUMOURS DENIED
ITALY BEING HARD HIT LONDON, October 21. “ Do wo not owe it to Malta to bit Italy from the air? ” asked Commander Sir "A. HI. J. Sonthby in the House of Commons. The Secretary of State for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair, replied: “We arc hitting Italy very hard, and shall go on hitting.’’ Commander Sonthby asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr Anthony Eden; “is there any agreement between Britain and Italy, or between Britain and any other belligerent, on the avoidance of bombing of certain towns and cities? ”
.Mr Eden: No. Mr G. C. Ammon (Lab.) : Then there is no truth in the rumoured agreement that if Cairo is not bombed Borne will not be bombed? Mr Eden; No. 'The Government .statement on this matter only stated what we would do in certain circumstances. It did not state what we would not do.
.Mr O. E Simmons (Con.) urged more 1.000-bomber raids, and Lady Astor (Con.) said: “ If we are going to have a second front, would it not be bettor to bomb properly? ” Sir Archibald Sinclair: We arc bombing as hard as we can. Commander Sonthby; Not Italy.
