<>— Tbo Industrial' Man Power Committee— Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), S. D. Macphersou, and H. H. Gillard —sat this morning to bear a number of appeals against the decision or direction of the industrial'man pojWtfr officer (Mr E. A. Selmaiil. ' Permission was granted to W. J. Spark, a shearer, to terminate his employment with the Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company Ltd., who appealed against the direction. An appeal on the grounds of ill-health was made by Raymond Bclworlhy, for whom bis mother appealed, against refusal of permission to terminate bis employment at the Rcvlyn Woollen Mills. The committee reserved its decision. A similar decision was made in the case in which Archie Queens, labourer, op*, pealed against direction to take employment with the Dunedin Engineering Company Ltd. He was directed to stay at his present work in the meantime.

Thomas Taylor, a boilermaker, with 21 years’ Railway Department service, considered that he would be more use to the country shipbuilding than at either the locomotive sheds or Hillside.'. He appealed agitinst the refusal of permission to terminate his employment with the railways. A question of promotion also entered into tbs matter.—The man power officer said that the latter position was one for the Railway Department. He felt it was not for him to adjudicate.—Evidence was given by George Stuart James Read, assistant locomotive engineer at Dunedin, and by W. L. McEvoy, workshops manager at Hillside. —Decision was reserved, appellant to remain in his present position in the meantime. Robert Bruce appealed against the direction to an employee, Doreen Anna Rentoul, to accept employment at the Tudor Clothing Company. The appeal was allowed, the man power officer having withdrawn his direction. RESERVED DECISIONS. Decisions in eases heard at previous sittings were given as follows Where the man power officer refused to allow E. W. Hongi to terminate his employment with the New Zealand Railway Department at Balclutba. the appeal was allowed as from October 21. William Mackay, for whom Charles Mackay (parent) appealed against a refusal of permission io terminate his employment with the National Mortgage and Agency Company, nad his appeal disallowed. Mavis Whaley, for whom lies and Poole Ltd. appealed against a. direction to the Soulhmayde private hospital as a nurse aid, had her appeal allowed. II was stated that she was under direct 1 -,n to a military hospital as a voluntary aid. L. C. Wybrow, who had appealed against the direction to transfer from the Dunedin Engineering Company Ltd. to Hogg and Co. Ltd., sawmillers, Tahakopa, had liu appeal allowed. James Mallet, who appealed against, a direction to accept employment with (he Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company Lid. (and whose apneal was supported by hi- employers, the Bruce Coal Conipanvj, had his appeal allowed.
