SERVICE APPEALS

Tho No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board — Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman), W. R. Clarke, and .1. C. H. Somerville—held a sitting yesterday afternoon, when further appeals .for exemption or release from military service were heard. The following appeals were dismissed: — New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company Ltd., for P. A. Roberts, a senior wool clerk; Stronach, Morris, and Co., for J. A. Casey, a wool store band; Mrs K. Cestcr, for F. C. Coster, a motor mechanic; W. Matiiovne, a brewery employee; A. C. Sharkey, for W. J. Hall, a wool store hand; Little and Brown, for G. F. Cory, a spray painter; same, for C. .1. Hannigan, a car painter; T. W. King, for R. C. Briggs, a bricklayer. Release from camp for the periods mentioned was granted in the following appeals:—P. Byrne, for A. H. Byrne, a vroccr, two 'months; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company Ltd., for L. J. Crannitch, a salesman, November 30 to May 31, 1943 (to Home Guard); Stronach, Morris, for A. D. McGregor, a storeman, November 1 to April 30, 1943; A. C. Sharkey, for J. T. MoAuliffe, a wool store employee,' November 15 to April 30, 1843. Retention in a local camp until March 31, 1943, was granted in an appeal by Mrs P. S. Henderson for J. S. Henderson, a heavy traffic driver. An appeal by Mrs E. A. Rackley, for C. J. Rackley, a. publisher’s assistant, was ad-joui-ned until January 31, 1943, the reservist to remain in a local camp in the meantime. Release from camp until December 31 was granted in appeals by R. D. Sutherland and M. V. Payne, sheep farmers. Adjournments • sine die were granted in appeals by the City Transport Department for H. C. N. McDonald, a bus driver, and by C. J. Codings, for W. E. Elliott, a baker, the reservist, in the latter case, to serve in the Home Guard. , An appeal for release from camp by Stronach, Morris, and Co., on behalf of V. Holderness, a woolclasser, was granted. The reservist to serve in the Home Guard. Similar action was taken in an appeal by W. D. Bolting, a butcher. An appeal by the MosgieL Woollen Company for D. J. Stephen, a worsted' drawer, was granted, the case to be reviewed on April 30, 1943, and the reservist to servo in the Home Guard in the meantime
