The mavor (Mr A. H. Allen) left by train this"morning for Christchurch to attend a meeting of K.P.S. district controllers. He will return on Thursday. Members of the No. 2 Armed lurcea Appeal Board, Messrs J. R- 'Bartholomew. (chairman), J. Brice, and H. Hodgson, with Messrs A. N. Haggitt and A. B. Thomson, left this morning for Oamaru. Mr C H Woods left by tins morning's train for the north after a visit to” Dunedin. . : Advice has been received that Sergeant Ivan Raymond Styles, son-or of Mrs and the late Mr Horace Styles, Sergeant Ivan Raymond Styles, only sou of Dunedin, has been killed in action overseas. Mr G. R. Ritchie was a passenger by the express last night, en route tor F Larsen, of the Department of*lndustries and Commerce left yesterday for Wellington to attend a deuartmental conference. Paterson, of Queen* Drive have received advice that their son, ’James William Paterson, is_a prisoner of war in Italian hands. Ha is well known in local lawn tennis circles, as he has won championship events, and has also represented Otago in interprovincial matches. Mr C. N. Thayer, town clerk of Opunake, who suffered neck when he was involved in a motor car accident last Thursday, died in the Hawera Hospital yesterday. He was 3G years of age. The senior New Zealand supply officer in Australia, Mr F. R. Picot, returned to the Dominion recently to report to the Government. Mr Picot, who- waa accompanied by his wife and daughter, continued his journey to Wellington. Mr Picot said lie was unable to state whether he would remain in the Dominion or return shortly to Australia. Major-general Sir Philip Mitchell, Governor of Fiji and High Commissioner in the Western Pacific, met the War Cabinet yesterday, and a discussion was held” concerning matters of mutual concern in the South Pacino area. .
