GERMAN IRON AND COAL
The latest Associated Chambers of Com* merce cable news bulletin states that tha German shortage of heavy iron and steel is having an adverse effect on Swedish in. dustry and on Nazi shipbuilding pro. grammes. The Swedish paper ‘ Nydag ’ in a prominent article states: “ The Dom* narvet iron works has been forced to close down owing to the shortage of coal, which is due to the great discrepancy between actual German coal deliveries and the quan. tities she has agreed to deliver. German iron supplies aro just as unsatisfactory os her coal supplies. Even Swedish shipyards, building ships for Germany on condition that Germany supplies certain quantities of iron and steel, have not received the necessary amount.” It is reported from Oslo, according to the Swedish paper ‘ Arebeter,’ that tha large German concern, Nordag, which is responsible for starting numerous industries, in Norway, has now been compelled' to stop work "in many branches, owing to thq shortage of materials.
