NO HANGING ON TO OFFICE

MR SULLIVAN OH ELECTION ISSUE

(Special.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. To the member for Tauraaga (Mr Doidge), and associating him with “ others,” the Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan), in the No-confidence Debate in the House of Representatives last night, sttid there would be no hanging on to office as far as the Government was concerned. The Government would not avoid an election when the war situation permitted of one being held. Mr Doidge: Are you aware that an election is being held in the United States at the present timeP Mr Sullivan said that when the Pacific position warranted it, and there was reasonable security for us, the New Zealand Government would go to the country. He hoped the member for Tauranga and others in the country would get rid of the idea that the Government wanted to stick to office. The Government knew that its duty was to the people, and would faithfully carry out that duty when it could do so with proper regard for the country’s safety and security
