OTAGO UNIVERSITY
TERMS EXAMINATIONS The results (excluding B.A. and B.Sc. subjects at stage 1) of the terms examinations in the arts, science, music, commerce, and mining faculties at the University of Otago were issued yesterday. Owing to the abnormal pressure on space at. present it is regretted that the practice of former years of publishing the results ■in full is not possible. The following recommendations for the award of scholarships and prizes are to be submitted to the University Council; — SCHOLARSHIPS. Where two awards are mentioned, the recommendation is that the scholarship be awarded to the student named second if the student named first declines the award. . Smeaton Scholarship.—J. J. Reed 1, J. ]?. A. Taylor 2. Uubecki Scholarship. J. ,H. Holmes (provided he surrenders the second year of the Proudfoot Sohdolarship, which.he at present has hel for one year). Proudfoot Scholarship.—Miss V. E. Todd (awarded this scholarship for one year). George Young Scholarship.—Miss Annabel Austin 1, G. N. Caldwell 2. Sir George Grey Scholarship. Miss Monica jbindsay 1, J. F. A. Taylor 2. Beverly Scholarships (Physics I.). —B. S. Painter. Beverly Scholarships (Physics III,). —J. N. Uodd 1, S. I. Roxburgh 2. Turnbull-Thomson Scholarship. Ryan PRIZES. Chamber of Commerce Prizes. —Junior, Miss SI. E. McLean; senior, A. L. Renton and I. E. Thompson (equal). Gilray Prize (English).—Miss S. Fawcett. ■' James Clark Prizes. English, R. B. Martyn; Latin, Miss P. A. H. Johnson; Greek, G. N. Caldwell; philosophy, Mrs P. G. Guest; history, W. R, Kirk. Macgregor Prize. —Miss A. Isbister and T. Conly (equal). Parker Prize. —Miss A. P. Wylie. Waters Prize. —R. P. Smith.
