GRAND
A gripping story is unfolded in * The Man Who Wouldn’t Die,’ which commenced a season yesterday, at the Grand. It is another of the now famous Mike Shayne films, with Lloyd Nolan playing the part of the detective. When Marjorie Weaver, who plays the feminine lead, returns to the homo of her father and announces that she is married, and, the same night is shot at, she engages' Mike Shayne to find her would-be murderer. Because her father has not yet seen her husband, and because he dislikes the police. Miss Weaver thinks it advisable for Mike to masquerade as her husband. Eerie scenes are interspersed with comedy and witty dialogue in the film, the most, amusing scene being, perhaps, the moment when Mike comes face to face with the real husband. In ‘The Perfect Snob,’ the supporting film, Lynn Bari and Cbnnel Wilde, a newcomer, play the leading roles. The . story concerns Miss Bari, who, upon graduating from school, immediately rushes off to Honolulu to snare a wealthy husband. This picture is unusual ,in some respects, but it provides enjoyable entertainment, and there is an exciting and hilarious conclusion.
