SUPREME COURT

The criminal session of the quarterly sitting of the Supreme Court was commenced this morning before Mr Justice Kennedy. There were five persons involved in charges ranging from perjury and indecent assault to breaking and entering and theft, said His Honour in his address to the grand jury. Perjury, His Honour said, was the making of a false statement on oath, the statement being known to be false, and made with intent to mislead a court. It was a crime which struck at the very foundations of the administration of Justice. This charge was preferred against two railway men, who had stated in evidence that there was a light on a leading truck on a side line at Green Island. This truck collided with a motor car. Witnesses would be called to say there was no light on the truck, nor any one in the vicinity. His Honour also dealt briefly with the other charges, and instructed the grand jury as-to its duties. True bills were returned in all cases. GRAND JURY. The grand jury was empanelled as follows:—George Abercrombie, Henry Y. Blair, Andrew McK. Cameron, Hector G. Chapman, Kenneth Clark, Gordon Cossens, Thomas L. Couper, John W. Delbridge, John W. A. Eustace, Arthur V. Gain, Arthur Gill, William T. Grant, Alan W. Gray, John H. Kirkwood, Gerald W. Lane, Herbert L. Longbottom (foreman), John McCombie, Willaim J. Mclnncs, Sydney S. Marctt, Percival Rouse, Robert E. Sligo, Sydney G. Smith, Alan G. Spiers. The trial of Henry Green (Mr 0. G. Stevens) on throe charges of indecent assault on females under the age of 16 years was then commenced. The Crown Prosecutor is Mr F. B. Adams. Evident in the trial is proceeding.
