HUNT CLUB MEETING
RECORD TOTE FIGURES Saturday was almost a mid-summer day at, Wingatui, and the sunshine and attractive programme arranged by the Otago Hunt attracted a record attendance, over £9OO being taken at the gales. The crowd included an unusually large contingent from Southland, and their remarks on having to leave the course after seeing only six of the eight races to catch the express home were far from complimentary to the management, which, to accommodate the money offering, allowed all attempts to observe punctuality to go to the wind, and the totalisator closed on tho last race just an hour and 20 minutes after tho scheduled time, and the race started one hour and a-half late. But the management had the satisfaction of pleasing the large majority of those present, and also making record totalisator figures for tho club, £37,590 10s, an increase of £16,633 on last year’s turnover, which was the previous best the club had done. Long delay's in balancing spoiled an otherwise good performance by the totalisator staff. Tho racing was interesting throughout the afternoon, and the Hunt Cup Steeplechase one of ibe best cross-country races ever run at Wingatui. Backers of first favourites scored three wins, but at short prices, and would not show a profit on the day.
