LYRIC CHOIR

Mr John T. Leech’s Lyric Choir will celebrate its twenty-first anniversary in the Concert Chamber next Wednesday night. The programme will be a special presentation of excerpts from Humperdinck’s fairy opera, * Hansel and Crete!.’ The famous sextet from ‘ Lucia di Lammermoor,’ by Donizetti, and the ‘ Credo ’ from Mercadante’s ‘ Mass ’ are also special features. Russian music, however, will be the main offering, and will include ‘To the Forest,’ by Tschaikowsky, ‘ The Waltz of the Flowers,’ from the ‘ Nutcracker Suite,' played by Olive and Ellice Nieper. Ethel Wallace, violinist, will present the old Russian gipsy folk dance melody, ‘ Two Guitars,’ and the choir will sing ‘ Chauve Souris,’ a Russian barcarole by Varlanoif (English words by C. R. Allen), and a Russian folk dance song, ‘ Spinning Top.’ Additional numbers are Mozart’s ‘ Ave Verum,’ ‘ The Dying Swan,’ by Delibes, and ‘ Mon of England,’ a patriotic ode by Ketelby. Heather Smith and Billy Loan will bo the narrators. The choir soloists are Eileen Gillies and James Swan. Sybil Baker is the accompanist, with Doris McKinlay at the second piano.
