DUNEDIN LICENSING COMMITTEE

QUARTERLY MEETING The quarterly meeting of the Dunedin Licensing Committee, comprising Messrs J, R. Bartholomew, S.M. (chairman), J. S. Douglas, V. S. Jacobs, H. W. Knight, J.E. Drearer, and W, R. Brown, was held this morning. An application for the transfer of the license of the Empire Hotel from Thcenas Cuthbert to Robert Victor Geddes was granted. In respect to an application by Daniel Fleming O’Connell for renewal of a publican’s license for the Southern Hotel, the Chairman said that this matter, had previously been stood down for two months in order that certain alterations in the premises might be carried out. This had apparently not been’done. All that the committee insisted upon was that the existing premises should be brought up to a proper state of repair.—Counsel fer the landlord and licensee explained the difficulties which had prevented the work being carried out. and the matter was further adjourned until next meeting, when, said the Chairman, if the work had not been dene, the committee would expect some very proper reason why. An application by John Thomas Nico! Grant for renewal of the license for the Carlton Hotel was adjourned for a further six months, the Chairman stating that the board was aware of the position in connection with this matter.
