—Ministerial.The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F* Jones, ivas engaged to-day in receiving deputations and dealing with departmental matters, and to-morrow will attend the launching of a minesweeper at Port Chalmers. He will return to Wellingon on Wednesday morning. Mr Peter Barr has been elected one of the first three life members of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Billiards Control Council in Christchurch last week- Mr H, G. Siedeberg (Dunedin) was elected patron and Mr C. Hill (Otago) a yice-presi-Lieutenanf-colonel A. H. Thomas. G S 0.l Southern Military District, and Major E. W. George, engineer works officer, arrived in Dunedin on Satur- - day morning and left to-day on their return north. , . At a recent meeting of_ the East Taieri Social Committee it was Me- 1 cided to present Corporal M. Miller. with an inscribed watch. As Corporal, Miller found it impossible to attend a , public function it was decided to _make the presentation privatelyand in ac-; cordance with this decision Messrs j John Sutherland and A. Wallace made the presentation at Mr Miller’s home. 1 Before commencing their pastoral l duties the Rev. Frank de Lisle and Mrs; do Lisle were given a hearty welcome on Saturday night by members and' friends of the Sloray Place Congregational Church. Mr Peter Barr occupied the chair and welcomed the new minister and Mrs de Lisle on behalf of the church. Addresses were delivered bv the Rev. J. S. Pate, the Rev. Kenneth A. Bell, Dr S. F. Hunter. Mr E. E. Wilkinson, Mrs R. J. T. Bell, and Mrs W T . J. Esplin. During the evening musical items were rendered by Miss Patricia Thorn. Miss Agnes Guy, and the Choir, the accompanist being Mr» Olive Campbell.
