Successful candidates will commence as locomotive cleaners Minimum commencing wages, £Z 8s 4d to £2 i4s 2d per week (plus cost of living allowance), according to age. Appointees, after a short period of cleaning duties, may qualify as acting locomotive firemen, with ultimate prospect of promotion to engine driver. Tima acting as firemen is paid for at a minimum rate of 2s 4|d per hour. Educational qualification required: Primary School Certificate (Sixth Standard). Application forms, obtainable from railway stations and offices, should bo completed and forwarded, with the necessary supporting papers, to the General Manager, Railways, Wellington.
