MINE STOPPAGE

THE LAW FLOUTED

(Special.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The Minister of Labour (Mr Webb), questioned regarding the stoppage of work at Pukemiro mine to-day, said no notice was given, and the miners’ action was a breach of their own agreement, a violation of the law and also the rules of their federation. It was totally unjustified in view of the serious war situation, as their grievances would be promptly considered by the National Disputes Committee. He had advised the men to resume work forthwith. “ The law will be upheld,” declared Mr Webb.
