MILITARY EXEMPTIONS
SITTING OF APPEAL BOARD A silting of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal hoard, comprising Mr J. 11. Bathoiuluoif, S.M , ami Messrs J. Price and H. Hodgson, was commenced yesterday afternoon, when the following appeals for release from the forces were dealt with, the date of recommendation for release being given in parentheses:—N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co. Ltd., for T. L. Cooper, manager (forthwith), to serve in the Home Guard; Wright, Stephenson, and Co. Ltd., for G. W. Simpson (December 1 to April 30); Gall and Caldow, for I. R. Caldow, plumber (dismissed) ; J. \V. Thomas, for 0. F. Booth (dismissed) ; Public Works Department, for P. F. Fletcher, raeeman (October 15); James Wren and Co. Ltd., for C. W. Fraser, accouniant (October 31); Henley Dairy Co. Ltd., for A. R. Horne and L. G. Kioogh (September ] to April 30 and October 1 to March 31); Otago Brush Co., for L. M. "’Langley (immediately) and for R. L. Reid (dismissed) ; A. W. C. Slipper, a married man with eight children (immediate release); L. J. Breen, builder (dismissed); Mooneys Ltd., for F. A Hackworthy, fur cutter (withdrawn); R. G. Weslako, shop assistant (dismissed, to serve in mm-combatant service); D. A. Crawford, waterside worker (dismissed). The last throe appeals were for exemption from service. This morning further appeals for release from camp were heard as under:—Sargood, Son, and Ewen Ltd., for J. E. Barrington, presser (immediate release), and for AV. A. McMillan (release recommended). The following appeals for exemption from service were also dealt with:—Ross and Glondhiing Ltd., for J. 'Garcgan, bench hand (adjourned sine die) ; John Thompson Ltd., for E. Findlay, boot finisher (adjourned sine die); Sargood, Son, and Ewen Ltd., for J. Freed and W. J. V. Pocklingtnn (adjourned sine die), and J. Nettleton (dismissed appellant not to be called up before November 30) ; McLeod Bros. Ltd., for A. N. Scott, storeman (adjourned to December 1); for L. F. R. Chave, carpenter, and W. J. Walker, soap hand (adjourned sine die) ; Hume Pipe Co., for R. C. S. Bates reinforcement maker (adjourned sine die); Glendermid Ltd., for D. M. Cooper, labourer (adjourned for three months') ; Rcale Ice Cream Co., for W'. M Crimp, manager (adjourned sine die); T. J. Heffcrnan (dismissed, not to be called up before Oetober 31) ; Atlas Box Co., for J. C, Davie, sawyer (dismissed, not to be called up before October 31), and for A. J. Lurnsden, sawyer (adjourned sine die); G. F. Drvden, for H. R. Dryden, bricklayer (adjourned to December 1) ; Dunedin Bag Depot Ltd., for R. H. Douglas, manager (adjourned to December 1) ; J. and A. P. Scott, fur R. W. Johnston, storeman (adjourned for three months) : Dalgety and Co. Ltd., for the release of J. L. McCall, elasser (recommended till April); G. Mclnnes, farmer (adjourned sine die). A number of appellants were instructed to serve in the Homo Guard.
