Mr W. E. Air AV. G. Burns, head master of the Cavcrsham School, has received word that his sou. Staff-sergeant Arthur L'. Burns, died of wounds in a field hospital in Libya on July 18. The mayor (Air A. H. Allen), left by Hie express last night for Wellington to attend a meeting of the executive of the Alunicipal Association. He will return to Dunedin on Saturday morning. 1 Airs Al. AI. 'Barclay, of Anderson,s Bav road, who has been infant mistress of tho Havelock School, Marlborough, for the past four years, and acting head teacher during part of that time, has jboen promoted to the x>osition of infant' mistress at the Riverton District Hign School, Southland. Before leaving Havelock, she was entertained at_ a., social gathering and presented with ? gifts from the teachers, pupils, and school committee, and also from - the' parishioners of St. Peters Anglican Church, and from the children of tho Sunday School, of which she was superintendent. Pty., a firm of merchants. One] of his sons, Lieutenant-commander; Ronald Nettleford, is in command of a minesweeper in the R.A.N.R., states an association cable. Reference to the death of Air Charles Todd was made by the mayor, Mr N. D. Anderson, at last, night’s meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council. Air Todd, said Air Anderson, had been mayor of the borough from 1923-25. That: had been a very trying period, and Air, Todd had laboured extensively in the borough’s interests. A motion of sympathy with his relatives was carried in the usual manner.
Air Septimus Owen was a passenger for Christchurch by tho north express to-day.
