Mr John Black returned from Christchurch by the express last night. Mr Fred G. Taplin, the Dunedin baritone, who will be remembered for his platform work and his successes at the local Competitions Society’s festivals, including the winning of the big aria contest in the Town Hall some years ago, is at present attached to an entertainment unit which gives concerts for the. soldiers in Northern Australia. He saw active service with a medical unit ' in Greece and Egypt, and before being sent back to Australia had the privilege of singing on 29 ships of the Navy then in Alexandria.
Cable advice has been received by Mr H. A. Adams, 15 Wilson Avenue, St. Clair, that his son, Arthur (Mick) Adams, has received his “ wings,’’ and has been commissioned in the Fleet Air * Arni, and is safe in England. Advice has been received by Mr and Sirs Davidson, Nile street, that their son, Colin Davidson, formerly on the staff of the Government Audit Offices at Wellington, Christchurehj and Dunedin, has received his “ wings ” and commission in the Fleet Air Arm. He is at present in the United States. An Association message from Slasterton states that word has been- received that Sir H. SI. Boddington, who has been closely associated with tennis administration in Wairarapa for 86 years and has been 20 years on the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Council, has been elected president of the New Zealand Tennis Association. ■ i
