OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD
Mr J. W. Dove occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital board last evening, and those present were Mrs W. A. Rosa, Drs W. Newlands and D. G. McMillan, Messrs R. Walls, D. J. Calder, J. George. An intimation was given that the whole question of district nursing was to bo discussed by a special committee of the board in the near future. In reply to a letter asking for medical equipment for aid posts on the Peninsula, the Chairman stated that it was impossible at the present time to send any further supplies away from the Hospital Without jeopardising the position there. A letter from a sister asking for permission to continue in her duties after her marriage to a soldier in camp led to a discussion on the board’s policy in such cases. As the situation had changed since the board’s last decision, made before general mobilisation, th-s Chairman stated that the whole matter would have to be reviewed in the near future. “It would be awkward,” said Mrs Ross. “ if the board refused her permission to stay in its employ and the man power officer refused to allow her to leave.” Statistics for July showed that 686 patients had been admitted to the Hospital and a total of 1,115 patients treated. At the end of July 397 patients remained in the Hospital. A total of 196 operations had been performed. In the general outpatients’ section attendances recorded were: Surgical, 1,005; medical, 462; gynecological, 7; ophthalmic, 359; casualty, 82.
