Cabled advice has boon received by Mrs Swauerton. Melville street, that her son, Signalman C. Swanerton, has been discharged from hospital. Mr Harold G. Bell has been appointed associate editor of the ‘ New Zealand Herald,Auckland. Born in Timaruin 1893, a son of Mr Robert Bell, ha was educated first at the Ashburton Borough School and the Ashburton District High School, and then at Canterbury College, where he graduated 8.A., won the senior scholarship of the University of New Zealand in mental and moral philosophy, and was in 1914 exhibitioner in economics. He served in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade from 1913 to 1919. From 1919 to 1922 he was a reporter for the Ashburton ‘ Guardian successively reporter, sub-editor. Parliamentary correspondent, and chief reporter of the ‘ New Zealand Herald, 5 1922-29; associate editor of the * Dominion.’ Wellington. 1929-33; and since then leader writer on the 1 New Zealand Herald.’

At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Board. Dr W. Newlands welcomed Mr J. W. Dove on his return_ to duty as chairman after his recent illness.
