FRRSURY PARK S DIFFICULT YEAR The annual general meeting of members of me rorbury jfark Trotting Club was held lust evening, when a large attendance of about 40 was presided over by Mr B. S. Irwin. in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the Chairman said it was unfortunate tor the club that the only meeting it was able to hold last season, chiefly owing to bad weather, resulted in a loss, and as there had been no other sources of revenue during the balance, of the season the year’s operations had resulted in a loss of £2,522 15s 2d. The military authorities had boon in occupation of the course, and so that the training of men should not be unduly interfered with no other fixtures had been held, Now that the training had Settled down the authorities were relaxing their control of courses, and both Wingatui and Forbury Park had since been made available for meetings, and tbe success of last Saturday’s fixture, even though held under military occupation of the property, augured well for the three meetings the club will hold this season. Last Saturday the military authorities met the requirements of the club at some discomfort to themselves, and deserved the thanks of the club. “ The people of New Zealand must have some reasonable recreation, and have shown a marked liking for the light-harness sport, and there are also many who are dependent on trotting for their livelihood,” said Mr Irwin. “ The huge revenue to the Government is also another matter that has to bo taken into consideration.’’ The reduction in the days of racing and trotting throughout the Dominion had so far resulted in a marked interest in the inect-ino-s held, and the fact that the club would tins season be racing on Saturdays should also help to make its fixtures successful. With so many men training and living on the club’s property it was only natural that it should be showing signs of wear and tear, but tbe committee has the Government’s solemn promise that it would bo handed back in good order, and already certain improvements in the way of drainage, etc., had been carried out by the authorities. During the year the club had lost several old and valued members by death, and to their relatives letters of sympathy had been sent The committee had made repeated applications to the Government for rent for the course, but so far had not succeeded in reaching any finality. The money owing for rent had not been included in the assets. The committee realised that it had a duty to perform to the public in providing good, clean sport, and would do its utmost during the approaching season in this respect. Sir J. M. Samson seconded the motion, which was carried. The election of officials resulted as follows President, Mr B. S. Irwin (unopposed) ; vice-president—Mr H.
