“POSHES’” SILVER COIN DRIVE
The provision of £1 per week for each of (lie 6,158 New Zealand prisoners of war is making a tremendous extra drain on New Zealand's patriotic funds. Originally New Zealand was asked to find only £200,000 from the all purpose# funds under this heading, but, owing to the large increase in the number of New Zealand prisoners, the total now needed on this score is nearly £320,000 per annum. Although tho Dunedin-St. Kilda Patriotic CounnUloo did not undertake to collect tlie extra £10,500 asked for from Dunedin by the National Patriotic Fund Board some weeks ago, it feels under a moral obligation to do its best to help make up the shortage on the prisoners’ account. Of the £10,500 asked for £1,500 has already boon received, leaving £9,000 still to get. Saturday’s patriotic race meeting will tur(her reduce this figure, and it is hoped that the “ posties’ silver coin drive” will go a long way towards meeting _ the deficiency. The committee makes this appeal for a generous response to the postmen’s and postwomen’s effort on Saturday next.
