METALLURGIST CHARGEE} WITH THEFT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 2t>. Tlui theft of gold valued at £31,496 was alleged in the Magistrate's Court to-day against Leo Edward Morlanrt (41), a metallurgist, and ho was remanded for a week. The charge was that Morland, on or about October 29, 1940, at Araliura, near Hokitika, being a servant in the employ of Arahura Gold Dredgino- Ltd., stole 3,6000 z of alluvial gold, valued at £31.496, the property of the' company. The detective sergeant representing the police asked for a remand, which was granted by the magistrate (Mr Stout). Morland was not represented by counsel, and had nothing to say.
