MANCHESTER UNITY
Loyal Milton Lodge has concluded a successful canvass of non-attending members, and signified their intention to attend meeting, 15 of whom have since been present on two occasions, two members were elected to office who had never been in the lodge room since the night of initiation. The juvenile branch membership could be augmented forthwith, but existing conditions make the position difficult. It has become the custom of city lodges during the war period to expedite business and turn the meetings into social gatherings. The change has been eminently successful, and each lodge is out to help sister lodges to regular visitations. Princes Mary held a cards evening to entertain cotenants of the Caversham Hall. All city lodges were represented. LoyaPCaversham held a special summoned meeting to elect a trustee to replace the .late Bro. Kearns, E.S. Bro. J. W. Wilson being the lodge’s appointee. Later in the evening card games, sponsored by Per. Sec Bro. Isaac and P.G. Bro. A. Rennie, proved enjoyable. A highlight of Loyal Albion’s meeting was the • appearance of Bro. Lippert on leave from service with the Navy, which he joined in April. 1940, and where ho made rapid progress, being loaned to the Imperial Navy. Sympathy was expressed with Bro. W. H. Davie on the 'loss of a son killed in action. This brother has a son missing also. The sympathy of the ledge went out also to Bro. R. Dow, whose son had been drowned while with the Sea Scouts. Bros. L. G, Hay, R. S. Holt, and A. Baxter have been listed as missing. At the termination cf business the interlodge bowls pairs championship was competed for, the winning couple being Bros. Riddell and Adam, of Loyal Caversham. Loyal Valley had an attendance of over 50 on the occasion of its fifty-ninth anniversary, all city and suburban lodges being represented. N.G. Bro. W. Jones presided, and received the felicitations of sister lodges. Matters in connection with the forthcoming handbook received consideration, and arrangements were made to play Loyal Caversham indoor howls at the next meeting.
