EFFECTIVE E.P.S. TEST
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 23. The Christchurch E.P.S. held its most useful trial on Saturday night, when the members were called upon to deal with 100 unrehearsed incidents. The incidents, represented by white sacks with descriptions of the emergen-
cies, were distributed by lorries, gun shots being used to announce their occurrence.
The alarm was sounded at 8.5, and although an alert had been announced in the afternoon some people on their way to dances or theatres had not completed their journeys before the trams stopped running. The all clear was given at 9.20. The regional commissioner (Colonel AV. T. Churchward) said the blackout was the best ho had yet seen.
