BATTLE OF INDIA
REPORTED JAPANESE PREPARATIONS (Rcc. 8 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 22. Sirdar Singh, president of the Indian League of America, declared that Japan was training Indian, Burmese, and Siamese troops for the [Battle of India, which could bo expected soon after the monsoon season ends on September 15. The United States, he added,' should mediate to induce Britain to meet the demands of Mahatma Gandhi, and he also proposed that India’s defence should be entrusted to a war council consisting of General Sir Archibald Waved, Lieutenant-general Stihvell, and the Chinese leader, General Chiang Kai-shek.
