CHINESE SUCCESSES

TOWNS CAPTURED IN CHEKIANG CHUNGKING, August 22. The Central News says that the Chinese have recaptured Yushau and Yingun, thus widening the hold on tha middle section of the Chekiang-Kaingsj railway, while large fires raging m Kaingshan indicate that the Japanese are preparing to abandon the city. The correspondent of the Associated Press of America (according to a New, York message) says that even Chines# quarters are surprised by the militarv successes of the Chinese forces, buti they are not inclined to attribute tha gains solely to the prowess of Chinese arms because private reports indicate that many Japanese troops are being withdrawn from Chekiang, southward to Manchuria.
