SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE REPORTED WASHINGTON, August 22. The chairman of the War Production Board, Mr D. W. Nelson, reported that war production had increased 50 per cent, since Pearl Harbour, 16 per cent, since last month, <f and the rest of the year will tell a story.” But he issued a warning that the July output was still 7 per cent, behind schedule, owing
to difficulties in co-ordinating materials. He specified that aircraft production in July "had increased by 11 per cent, since .J une, but the output of comibat planes fell short of expectations and had not reached the planned schedule for the next few months. In July the production of medium tanks exceeded that for Ju-ne by 35 per cent., and light tanks by 15 per cent,, while the output of anti-aircraft guns had increased 64 per cent, in the same period.
