CONCERT FOR PATRIOTIC FDNOS t As a contribution to the Navy Queen’s campaign in the Queen Carnival events, the Choral Society will stage a special concert in the Town Hal! on Tuesday, October 22 A fine group of soloists is belli" assembled for the occasion. For example, in the selection of excerpts from Sir Edward Elgar’s cantata. ‘ Caractacus,’ which will constitute a feature of the programme, Miss Anita Proctor, Mr James Hinton, and Mr Russell Laurenson will appear. The glowing, exciting Prince Igor ’ music is also on the programme, as well as Cesar Franck’s ‘lsoth Psalm ’ and a number of part songs, in one of which Miss Ivy Harman is to be the soloist. Nor is instrumental music to bo neglected for that very line and popular voting pianist, Miss Mavis Macdonald, will take the solo part in Beethoven’s joyous ‘ Choral Fantasia,’ one of the most .popular works which the society has ini reduced during (lie last few years, Mr Alfred Walmsley will he in his usual place on the conductor’s stand, and, besides the choir, which is ill great form at present, he will have under his baton a full orchestra to be led by Miss Ethel Wallace. To make the evening complete there, is to be the appearance of the Navy Queen herself, Miss Jessie M‘Lonnan, who is to speak the noble and inspiring epilogue to ‘ Caractacus. Box plan arrangements for the concert are advertised.
