H.Z.'S FINE KNIHING RECORD [Pee United Press Association.] ' WELLINGTON, October 7. The way the women and girls of New Zealand are helping in the national patriotic effort is illustrated in the returns of knitted goods supplied in the first year of operation of tiie National Patriotic Fund Board from the board’s store in Wellington. The greatest total is represented by balaclavas, of which 31,42 b have been dealt with by the store. Of these, 11,256 have been consigned overseas to the board’s commissioner, 4,475 have gone to the Navy Department, 1,338 to the Air Force Delations Organisation, 1,101 to the Navy League, and 307 to the Army Department, leaving 11,799 in stock. Great work has also been done in the making and packing of hussifs or sewing kits. The store has received 25,842 hussifs from various parts of the country. Between them, the Army Department and the Navy Department have had. 22,272 of the hussifs, and there are 3,570 in stock. -Of 17,661 pairs of mittens, 12,272 are still in-stock. Of 4,920 pairs, that have left the store, 2,664 pairs have been supplied to the hoard’s commissioner overseas, 1.597 pairs to the Navy Department, 405 pairs to the Air Force Relations, 236 pairs to the Navy League, and 27 pairs to the Army Department. _ , Scarves received total 14,735, and 8,628 have been distributed as follows: —Consigned overseas, 4,179; Navv Department, 2,787; Air Force Relations, 863; Navy League, 617 ; Army Department, 182. Jn addition to these main items, the Air Force Relations organisation has been supplied with 1,083 pairs of gloves and the Navy Depart- , ment with 20 pairs. The Navy Department has had 432 pairs of socks, the Navy League 90 pairs, and the Air Force Relations 52 pairs. totalling 219 have been supplied, mainly to the Navy League and the Air Force Relations. The remaining item on the list is skull caps, of which 105 have been supplied, almost entirely to the Navy League.
