BEAU VUE’S RECORD TIME
BRILLIANT VICTORY IN METROPOLITAN
DOMINION HORSES AGAIN SUCCESSFUL
GOLD SALUTE'S CONVINCING WIN
■SYDNEY, October 7,
Beau Vite’s dazzling victory in the Metropolitan at the second day of the Australian Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting at Randwick stamps him as a stayer whose class would be hard to find in Australia to-day. He appears, according to experienced turfists, to- have a mortgage on the Melbourne Cup. Not since the days of Phar Lap has any horse achieved a double track record at a Randwick meeting, as was registered by Beau Vite in the Colin Stephen Stakes on Saturday and the Metropolitan to-day.
His time of 2min 42sec for the mile and five furlongs to-day constituted an Australian and New Zealand record hitherto held by Young Crusader at 2min 42isec, and established in 1937, Beau Vite has made all the improvement expected of him as a four-year-old, and is expected to provide a real threat to Ajax in Victorian weight-for-age races. His triumph in the Metropolitan was not relished by fielders, who had him heavily coupled with High Caste and Beaulivre in the Epsom.
Beaulivre looked fit to-day, but weakened at three furlongs, and beat only two home in the Metropolitan. Gold Salute (New Zealand) came prominently into the public eye again by a convincing win in the Shorts over a smart field, including Yergure, in the record lime of Imin lOsee. The Breeders’ Plate, for colts and geldings, went to the speedy chestnut colt Yaralla, by The Buzzard from Even Keel, while the consistent New Zealand-bred colt Pinero gained further honours by easily winning the Grantham Stakes.
The weather was delightful and the course fast. The attendance was 60,000.
