ACCUMULATED GASES IGNITE
FIREMAN'S FACE AND HANDS BURNT Fire breaking out in a wooden dwelling of one and a-half storeys at Cumberland street at 12.45 this morning burnt out an attic, but the City Brigade prevented the blaze from, spreading. The building was owned by Mr A. Jordan, and occupied by Mr George Brown. While he was working a branch hose up the stairway of this building, James Fleming, a fireman, was burnt about the face and hands when an explosion of accumulated gases took place in the attic. The explosion blew two sheets of iron from the roof, and shattered all the windows in the attic. Fleming was admitted to the Hospital. His condition is not serious.
